Beyondblue fund raising event - High tea of the highest standards

It all started with a few ladies discussing the idea of holding a fun high tea event in aid of a charity. Within a few weeks, a committee was formed, with 4 mothers and their families, and the planning began.

The biggest hurdle was booking of the hall as the ladies did not have any kind of public liability for this type of an event.

But Thanks to the Lankan Islanders Cricket Club coming to the rescue this was done with ease.

Monthly planning meetings kept things in check, the evergrowing to-do list being ticked off quickly and efficiently, with countless new suggestions and additions being given by the families. The committee of friends was always treated to a mini high tea after each meeting, a nod to the real event that loomed ahead.

The initial goal was to raise $5000 for beyondblue.

As a non-profit organisation raising awareness for mental health, beyondblue was selected as its cause is quite close to home for many of us.

Once the tickets were printed, the dedication of the team went into overdrive, with everyone working hard to sell tickets, collect prizes and receive donations. In fact, all tickets were sold out two months prior to the event!

At 3pm on the 18th of November, the Marigold room at Glenwood Hub was buzzing, with the tables decorated beautifully with fresh flowers (by committee member Laureen) that surrounded high tea stands filled with sweet treats.

The special guests Hayley Venables, a volunteer speaker from beyondblue, and Lindy Assur, clinician from Blacktown Hospital, dived deeper into the heart of the cause, raising awareness of the signs and effects of mental illness and how to help our loved ones when they need it the most.

The joint MCs Rodney and Sanjeewa did an amazing job, successfully selling all our raffle tickets and garnering some high bids for the silent auction items.

Dale Mendis from Caterplan served the delicious savouries for the event - they were so good, our guests wanted more!

The trivia competition kept the crowd entertained and brought out their competitive side, with first place and runner up prizes up for grabs.

Many guests commented on the success of the event and they definitely enjoyed the evening, all on top of supporting a very worthy cause.

An amazing total of $11,875 was raised. An additional amount $1616.15 was generously donated by Canley Vale High School which made a grand total of $13,491.15.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and all those who were a part of the event in any way, you all made this amazing result a reality.
